We receive many enquiries on training to become a specialist SpLD Teacher for those working with learners with dyslexia and other specific learning difficulties. Dyslexia Action offers two possible routes to train as a Specialist Teacher at Level 5 or at Level 7.  The following flowchart and guide is designed to give an insight into the main training routes available online through Dyslexia Action, full details on each programme can be found in the boxes below:

Why choose The Level 5 Diploma in Strategic Teaching Support (DADIP61)

Applicants may wish to choose this course if they:

  • Wish to qualify as a specialist teacher and have access to the unique resources provided by the Dyslexia Action Literacy Programme (DALP).
  • Have a few hours a week to commit to study but not more than 10 hours per week
  • Do not have the available time or resource to undertake demanding level 7 study.
  • May wish to progress to a Level 7 Specialist Assessor course on completion.

Why choose The Level 7 Professional Certificate in Structured Teaching Intervention 

Applicants may wish to choose this course if they:

  • Wish to qualify as a specialist teacher and have access to the unique resources provided by the Dyslexia Action Literacy Programme (DALP).
  • Have a minimum of 20 hours a week to commit to Master’s level reading and assignments.
  • Have the available time and resource to commit to demanding level 7 study.
  • May wish to progress to a Level 7 Specialist Assessor course on completion.
  • Wish to complete their MA with Middlesex University on achieving 120 credits with Dyslexia Action.
